145 years since King Carol I proclaimed himself as “king of Romanians,” King Michael has informed that beginning Tuesday he breaks all connection with the Royal House of Hohenzollern. In this way, he respects the 1921 decision of his ancestor, King Ferdinand I to give a national character to the Romanian Royal House, according to the Royalty press release on Tuesday.

Following the recent decision, the Royal House will no longer be called The House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, but the Royal House of Romania. The members of the Royal Family will also give up all their titles given by the heads of the Hohenzollern royal family.
“In accordance with our grandfather’s wishes , the Royal Family will be entitled Of Romania, and beginning with May 10 they will no longer be entitled with the additional Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen House name”
