Seoul’s Floating Island

The South Korean capital Seoul is now home to the world’s largest artificial floating island, recently opened on the Han river. It is made up of three inter-connected centres for concerts, conventions, exhibitions, water sports and restaurants. The authorities hope the island will become a major attraction for South Koreans and foreign visitors alike.

The public and private-funded project has cost the equivalent of more than 60 million euros and is at the heart of a major river renaissance plan.

1923 Leica 0-Serie Nr.107

A Leica camera from 1923 was sold at auction Saturday,in Vienna, for a world record 1.32 million euros

1923 Leica 0-Serie Nr.107. This is the 7th camera of the Leica 0-series. Only approximately 25 of these cameras were produced to test the market in 1923, 2 years before the commercial introduction of the Leica A. It is the only camera known with “Germany” engraving on the top plate. The factory record indicates delivery to New York for patent applies. This means that this camera is not only one of the major existing rarities, it is also the first Leica being exported

But in my opinion to pay that amount of money on something you’ll never gone use as it was intended, but most likely put in a showcase, it’s just Stupid.

Theatre of Dreams

It was not to be one of those special Man United nights..( Fc Barcelona – Man United 3-1)

It would have been to nice to score another trophy this year after the Premier League title, with which Sir Alex Ferguson kept his promise when he first arrived on Old Trafford ,25 Years ago : The important thing is to beat Liverpool :))) is his own words :  “knock Liverpool off their perch ( by winning their 19 title Man United became the most successful team in English football history)

I wonder what Mourinho will say when he will come to replace Fergie on the Theatre of Dreams

“I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it. Football. Bloody hell.”

Sir Alex Ferguson after the Uefa Champions League Final in 1999, 2-1 in overtime against Bayern Munich :“I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it. Football. Bloody hell.”

Tonight it’s that time again the Manchester United show in finals. :)) Sir Alex Ferguson reached his 4th final, and the two he won, as you remember were full of drama. After the ’99 final with the final minutes drama of Bayern, and the ’08 final, against Chelsea FC ,  when the penalties were to remember, I wonder what they will be able to produce tonight..

So I hope tonight on Wembley we will see a re-edit of the 1968 final when believe it or not Manchester United played against SL Benfica, went to overtime, where they managed to score 3 goals in the first 10 minutes of the first half of overtime :) (4-1 final score, Wembley stadium 1968) Plus and it’s a big Plus, someone must finally defeat Fc Barcelona (secretly Mourinho Fan)

“If I had to nitpick, and obviously I do”

Two videos from Top Gear, added to youtube in may.

The Porsche 911 Turbo and an ageing VW Beetle go head-to-head in an extraordinary one-mile drag race. Richard Hammond in the Porsche must cover the distance on the ground while the Beetle is dropped from a helicopter.

Jeremy Clarkson subjects the Skoda Yeti to a remarkable road test involving a tattooist, fire and a helicopter which just so happened to be circling the Top Gear track

Palme d’Or

The winner of the Palme d’Or(Cannes film festival) in 2011 is director Terrence Malick

The Tree of Life - Terrence Malick is back at Cannes for the first time since he won best director  for “Days of Heaven” in 1978. Brad Pitt and Sean Penn costar this time around.

Anything but living in a tree is disturbing

A few days ago a few journalists from the Sun, decided to visit Romania, the city of Tandarei to be precise, to see the houses of some gypsyes that received about 800.000 pounds from the UK government as social benefits (illegaly)

Without any further ado  ( I always wanted to say this :) ) this is what they discovered

” A gypsy beverly Hills built with british benefits ” :)))

” But our visit did not go unnoticed by the fiddling gypsies.

As we walked around, a burly man with gold teeth screeched up in a UK-plated right-hand-drive Vauxhall – and snarled: “Take a picture of my house and I will crash into your car. You will die.”

UK-registered vehicles are commonplace in the town.”

This is the quote from the Sun, but I say how the hell does this look like Beverly Hills????

Mind-bog-gglingly useful

The written word erects :))

Artist Marta Minujin, Argentina latest creation - a spiraling, 25-meter-tall (82-foot) tower meant to pay homage to the written word.

Placed in  the Plaza San Martin, in the heart of the Argentine capital - “The Tower of Babel” — built from 30,000 books, most of them donations from some 50 embassies.

Artists view point - “I don’t know why we have to have different languages” ; “It’s really amusing to be able to climb up and down a work of art ” – guess I don’t have an eye for art :)

The World Beard and Moustache Championships is a biennial competition in which men with beards and moustaches display lengthy, highly-styled facial hair. :))
The first Championship took place in Höfen-Enz, Germany, in 1990.

Yesterday in Trondheim, Norway Elmar Weisser, 47, beat 160 contestants to the prize with his elaborate facial hair sculpture of a moose, in the latest World Beard and Moustache Championship.   –  full Gallery inside

“Summer rains. You can never predict them.”

Let get this straight from the start..You know when it’s raining outside, and you are under your umbrella walking along..well I’m that guy you see , wet to his under-shorts, walking without an umbrella pretending it’s not so bad :) to keep it short I wouldn’t get caught with an umbrella ever, except maybe one of these:

Polite Umbrella

This project is about an interactive umbrella that respects people’s personal space in a public area. A user can easily adjust their umbrella anytime by pulling a handle so that one can protect themselves from harsh winds or bumping into others

PILEUS: The Internet Umbrella

Pileus is an umbrella connected to the Internet to make walking in rainy days fun. Pileus has a large screen on the top surface, a built-in camera, a motion sensor, GPS, and a digital compass. The current prototype has two main functions: photo-sharing and 3D map navigation.

Dr House sings the blues

Hugh Laurie the british actor and comedian, the famous doctor House in the american medical drama ”House M.D”, has released the blues album ”Let them Talk”. Few people know he is also a talented musician as he plays guitar, piano, drums, harmonica and the saxophone.

He decided to go on with it because, when being asked to do it he thought ” I’m not gonna feel very clever saying I could have done that “. The album was recorded in the French quarter of  New Orleans so check out his album here

Michael of Romania

145 years since King Carol I proclaimed himself as “king of Romanians,” King Michael has informed that beginning Tuesday he breaks all connection with the Royal House of Hohenzollern. In this way, he respects the 1921 decision of his ancestor, King Ferdinand I to give a national character to the Romanian Royal House, according to the Royalty press release on Tuesday.

TIME Magazine Cover – 1 Aug  1927

Following the recent decision, the Royal House will no longer be called The House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, but the Royal House of Romania. The members of the Royal Family will also give up all their titles given by the heads of the Hohenzollern royal family.

“In accordance with our grandfather’s wishes , the Royal Family will be entitled Of Romania, and beginning with May 10 they will no longer be entitled with the additional Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen House name”

The House of Hohenzollern is one of the most important dynasties in Europe. The Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen is a wing of the Hohenzollern dynasty. Kings Carol I (1881-1914), Ferdinand I of Romania (1912-1921), Mihai I (Michael) of Romania (1927-1930 and 1940-1947) and Carol II of Romania (1930- 1940)
