Saudi Kingdom

The Kingdom Holding Company owned by Al-Waleed bin Talal (member of the Saudi Royal Family , he is the nephew of the Saudi Arabian King Abdullah) are financing what could be the new World’s tallest building , named Mile-High Tower (also Kingdom Tower) estimated height : 1,600 m/ 5,280 ft, location  Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

The project started in 2008 with the soil testing which wasn’t totally convincing, so they scaled back making it “up to 500 meters shorter”. After two years in March 2010, Adrian Smith and  Gordon Gill Architecture were selected as architects, and the go ahead was finally given in October the same year. Cost – 13.6 US$ billion

When completed (2012-2013) it will have almost twice the height of the present World’s tallest buildingBurj Khalifa , Dubai 828 m/ 2,717ft
