Artisanal Ansatz is an art collective made up of a small group of Belgian designers that cite surrealism and caricature as chief influences. The group creates tee shirts with popular cultural staples like pop star Lady Gaga, Hip-Hop God Ol’ Dirty Bastard and filmaker Quentin Tarantino among others. Remarkably, all of the designs that end up on their tee shirts are done with a very unlikely and archaic instrument – the ball point pen.

a follow-up to their latest collaboration, Kidrobot and Swatch release a stop motion video highlighting the eight Swatch Gent timepieces and Dunny figurines that were adapted for the artist campaign. The elaborate project has done its fair share of promotion over the past few weeks, but the impressive stop motion short is likely to be one of the more notable endeavors to date. Written, directed and produced by Happycentro, the Italian creative group combined a total of 1404 frames to comprise the fluid video that lasts for just under two minutes

Distinctive watch makers Bell & Ross have designed a WWI-inspired watch that marks a departure from their mostly square silhouettes. GANT by Michael Bastian introduces a limited edition watches alongside their 2011 fall/winter collection rollout. Produced in a finite run of 1949 pieces each, the black PVD watch is individually numbered on the back paying homage to the year GANT was first established. Internally the timepiece is crafted with high precision quartz movement by Miyota and housed within a domed mineral crystal glass. Three interchangeable strap options are offered. Since 1883 Kaweco of Germany has been applying their company motto “small in the pocket, great in the hand” in their efforts to produce high end writing implements. Case in point: the AC Sport Carbon Fiber Fountain Pen ($112), which embodies the company motto right down the last dotted ‘I’ and crossed ‘T’. In an interesting collaboration, A Bathing Ape has announced today their new collaborative t-shirt collection with Star Wars. Iconic characters from the movie series are mixed with trademark Bape characters and graphic styles. The collection is overall comprised of 6 t-shirts, each coming in several colorways. The capsule will be released on September 17th, 2011.

Munich-born designer David Hanauer makes rugs that look like old-school Persian carpets, but in reality feature carefully-selected screenshots pulled from Google Earth, usually taken from the Las Vegas or Los Angeles areas. The resulting patterns, created by repeating and reflecting images that Hanauer has lightly retouched (and in certain cases, still contain a Google watermark), are surprisingly beautiful — especially if you have an interest in city planning or aerial photography.
